LUDWIG MIES VAN DER ROHE (1886-1969) DESIGNER & BAMBERG METALLWERKSTÄTTEN PUBLISHERMR 50, known as Brno, the model designed in [1930], our armchairs produced between the end of 1931 and the summer of 1932 for the Loewenfeld family, 6 of the 9 known and attested period pieces to date, the other 3 preserved in institutions. Suite of six modernist armchairs. Chrome-plated tubular metal structures; each formed by two curved tubes joined at the back of the backrest and the cantilevered base by screw-fastened inner sleeves. The seats and backrests, each forming an L-shape assembled by internal metal squares on wooden frames, (re)upholstered in white leather. Our series of seats, acquired from Estler-Regale in Berlin-Charlottenburg, the company responsible for marketing Bamberg Metallwerkstätten. H. 78 cm - D. 60 cm - W. 55.5 cm, used condition; upholstery and tapestries not original (replaced in the 1970s by Gomme, upholsterers in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, England), metal parts entirely re-chromed in the 1970s by a High Wycombe firm; wear to reupholstered seats and backrests; wear and pitting to chromed parts; inner sleeve fixing screws oxidized and not original.
