Mamluk-style enameled glass mosque lamp bearing the name of - Lot 87
Mamluk-style enameled glass mosque lamp bearing the name of Emir Qawsûn (Saïf al-Din Kûsûn) France, Paris, second half of the 19th century Lamp with high truncated cone-shaped neck and flared pedestal, fitted with six suspension rings, in transparent, lightly tinted glass with polychrome painted and gilded decoration. The body is adorned with a wide blue "naskh mamlouk" band resembling a thuluth, interrupted by the rings, against a background of polychrome swirling foliage. Around the collar, a Qur'anic inscription in blue naskh (Sura al-Nur XXIV, 35) is interrupted by three roundels with the Mamluk cupbearer's coat of arms representing a cup. On the shoulder, multi-lobed cartouches furnished with palmettes are separated by interlacing figures of birds, phoenixes or parrots. Condition: a very slight crack under one ring and a longer crack of approx. 10 cm under another ring; one ring broken with part missing. Height 31.2 cm; opening size: 19 cm; foot diameter: 13.5 cm
